Close to Finishing Our Freshmen Year of Language School

Ann - May 28, 2006

Well, I feel anything but ?fresh? (i.e. ?freshmen) as I look at the fact that our first year of intense Russian language school is about to wrap up.  ?Intense? is definitely a word I can relate too.  But through it all I continue to be reminded that there are so many things going on in the ?unseen world? that I am not even aware of, and that God is at work, whether I see it or not.

"HANG ON TIGHT!!!"

This has been quite a year.  I liken it to riding on a roller coaster.  Sometimes you just have to close your eyes and hang on tight!  Other times it?s exhilarating to be up that high, ?on the edge?, and in a position that you can see from a higher, different perspective.

I came across a letter that John Maisel, President of East-West Ministries, wrote several years ago.  I love the way John thinks & processes and his way of expressing himself.  This was on the subject of  Luke 9:23 ? ?If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me.?

John says:  ?Coming after Him is the only thing that will motivate me to ?deny myself and take up my cross daily.?  Coming after Him is definitely ?following Him.  Pursuing Jesus is the most important call on our life as a Christian.  Not pursuing ministry, results, projects, people, Bible study, or high goals. (or even the Russian language) BUT. . . pursuing Him and Him alone who has ?the words of life?.  That, my friend, is the only thing that will motivate me to come to Him and be willing to die.?

That is our ultimate goal ? to pursue Jesus.  Some days we have been successful and some days, just like in the States, we would get so caught up in the ?doing? of school, and life and issues that we totally would lose sight of Who it was that we wanted to be pursuing.  We are so grateful that God does not lose sight of us.

We are so grateful for the support we have been given this year ? emotionally, spiritually, financially ? many ways that we may not even be aware of.  If you are reading this then you are probably one of those supports and so we thank you.  God is doing great and mighty things ? especially in the teen transition center development, despite our frailty.  Probably because of our frailty, God is able to show Himself strong.  I love how He does that in ways that only HE can do.
